Questions and Answers

Who\What introduced you to Curling?
My Father Eric Harnden

Do you have any pre-game superstitions or rituals?
No superstitions, but I try and follow the same pre-game ritual - eat at least 2 hrs before game time (if possible), get my body warmed up by getting in a quick workout (push-ups and stretching if the hotel doesn't have a gym) etc.

What is your career highlight to date?
2010 Tim Horton's Brier - 9-2 round robin record and bronze medal finish.

What is one shot you would like to try again?
first shot, 8th end, 2010 Tim Horton's Brier, page playoff 1-2 game against Howard - I let the rock go and yelled clean and ended up flashing a peel, which eventually led to a score of 3 for Howard, allowing them to go up 1 - we scored one in 9 and they scored their single in 10 to win and go to the final.

Who was influential in your curling development?
My father Eric Harnden - he taught me everything I know and I still ask him for advice on a regular basis.

What is your favourite sport other then curling?
Hockey - since I played competitive for so many years before I became serious about curling.

What is your most embarrassing moment on the curling ice?
2010 Tim Horton's Brier - I fell throwing a take-out against PEI - almost made it though :)

What is your earliest curling memory?
I would have been 7 or 8 - Out on the ice at Soo Curlers with my Father and my younger brother. Ryan was all over the ice with his hockey helmet on and cut down broom.

What kind of Training Regimen do you follow?
I try and always follow a good fitness schedule as well as nutrition schedule - I workout 5-6 days a week (cardio as well as weight lifting) and try and eat between 4-5 healthy balanced meals per day.

What are your curling strengths?
Brushing, judging rock speed, hitting, strategy

What are your curling weaknesses?
sometimes I struggle with draw weight and also sometimes my emotions get the best of me - both of which I am continually working on to improve.

What kind of goals have you set for yourself?
Become the best at whatever position I am playing - I want to be known as one of the great players at my position - I want to win the Brier as well as the Olympics and when I am done playing I want to be remembered as not only a great player, but as being a part of an amazing team that were entertaining to watch.

Do others in your Family curl?
Yes, my father, my brother, my uncle and my cousin.

What do you enjoy most about curling?
The competition and how every game is different.

What have you learned through curling?
Patience is key!

What would you like others to know about curling?
That it requires more physical fitness than what people think and it is much harder to play than we make it look.

Most memorable curling experience?
2008 Nothern Ontario Provincial Championships - Final game - I have had and will continue to have many other great moments in curling, but none will be the same as winning the right to go to my first Brier and doing that with my father.

Who is your greatest competitor?
Myself.

Who is your curling rival?
Myself.

Place you'd like to build a curling club?
My Backyard - If I had the choice I would curl all year round every day.
