Questions and Answers

Who\What introduced you to Curling?
I got cut from the 'A' hockey team when I was 10 years old and didn't want to play with the 'B' guys. I was obviously an entitled little sh*t. So my parents signed me up at the Lakefield Curling Club for their juniors program. I'm still a bad hockey player.

Do you have any pre-game superstitions or rituals?
Nothing in particular, other than a consistent effort to keep things enjoyable. Work, stress and pressure is for my job. This is fun.

What is your career highlight to date?
Runner up to Glenn Howard in the 2012 Ontario Men's Tankard, while playing Lead for Peter Corner (McCarrel & Frans). That was a hell of a curling team, and to get so close to realizing a life long dream - I still get that 'rollercoaster feeling' in my stomach just thinking about Howard's last shot needing to roll another 2 inches and we win. I look at the experience positively.....now.

What is one shot you would like to try again?
See above - I wasn't shooting, but wish we could have kept Corner's last shot an inch or two higher.

Who was influential in your curling development?
Norm Dyment from Peterborough, my junior coach, and Roy Weigand from Scarborough Golf & Country Club, my adult coach. Roy also helped me with curling. :) My late Step-father, Gord Terry, was also a huge figure in my curling life. There aren't weather conditions that exist that would keep him from driving me to a curling club.

What is your favourite sport other then curling?
Hockey and baseball.

What is your most embarrassing moment on the curling ice?
Up 2 on Wayne Middaugh (with Jon Mead, John Epping and Scott Bailey at the time) playing the 7th end at the Oakville OCT Championships, without hammer. Decided to play for the force... Forced him to 7. To this day, the 4 of them enjoy reminding me, "Hey Prebbs, good luck out there. Maybe hit something, eh?".

What is your earliest curling memory?
Deciding on the tuck slide as my delivery of choice because that was how I could slide the furthest.

What kind of Training Regimen do you follow?
Over-all fitness. Gym once a week with a personal trainer, general nutrition for meals. Add in the odd run or bike session plus weekends at the cottage with lots of swimming.

What are your curling strengths?
Better than average touch game, and a good idea of how to score points.

What are your curling weaknesses?
A reliance on that aforementioned touch game, leading to the need to score lots of points.

What kind of goals have you set for yourself?
1 goal - The Brier.

Do others in your Family curl?
Nearly everybody in my family has curled at some point semi-regularly. I am currently the only one actually playing, but they all love to watch and follow along.

What do you enjoy most about curling?
Camaraderie. I still can't believe I get to spend so much time away with my best friends. It's like a dozen scheduled boys weekends added to the calendar.

What have you learned through curling?
It's allowed me to hone my communication skills, confidence levels, public speaking and emotional control. It's had a ridiculously large role to play in the forming of me as a person.

Other Olympic Sport you'd like to try?
Bobsled (driver)

What would you like others to know about curling?
Just how much fun it is. I don't know a single person who has ever tried sliding on ice and thought, "Nah, this ain't fun.".

Most memorable curling experience?
I was 17 years old, and Dennis Lemon and I swung by the Peterborough Curling Club in the late summer because the ice was in for the Trillium Curling Camp. The Camp was over, so we thought maybe we could throw some rocks. As we walk into the change room, there are Russ and Glenn Howard putting their gear on as they'd been brought in to match the rocks. They immediately invite us to help them and we got to spend the entire weekend with them. It was a hugely formative moment in my desire to become a competitive curler.

Place you'd like to build a curling club?
Chandos Lake

Who are your favourite athlete/heros?
Mark Beuhrle. Consistently good, and smart.

What other sports do you play?
Hockey, baseball, golf, tennis.

What is the best advice you've ever received?
Everything can be second-guessed. Don't stress the decisions you make in the moment. Make a call on something (curling or otherwise), own it, and move along.

Name one thing that's in your bucket list?
Tour old WWII areas (Germany, France, etc.)
