Questions and Answers

Who\What introduced you to Curling?
My Mom and Dad started the Little Rocks program at the Woodstock Curling Club in Woodstock, Ontario. My brother and I were part of the first Little Rock group

Do you have any pre-game superstitions or rituals?
Not really superstitions, but I try to stick with the same pregame routine as much as possible

What is your career highlight to date?
Representing Ontario at the 2015 Brier

What is one shot you would like to try again?

Who was influential in your curling development?
From the very beginning it was my Mom, Dad, and Grandfather. They all put so much into helping me get to where I am now and giving me the opportunity to play the best sport in the world. Once I got into competitive curling in juniors I had a lot of great coaches along the way and I continue to rely on coach input to improve my game.

What is your favourite sport other then curling?
Other than curling golf would be my favourite sport to compete at. It's a sport that you could play the worst game of your life, but sink a huge putt or crush a drive and it makes you want to come back the next day.

What is your earliest curling memory?
Being thrown down the ice on top of a curling rock by my Dad.

What kind of Training Regimen do you follow?

What are your curling strengths?
I have always been a grinder, someone who never gives up and believes that one shot can change a game. I think my biggest strength is my ability to throw the big weight takeout and then draw the pin or throw a touch shot. Being a skip you have to have those shots in your arsenal and be prepared to use them at any point in a game.

What are your curling weaknesses?
Sweeping anything more than 6 feet, but only because I've been a skip for 95% of my curling life.

What kind of goals have you set for yourself?
I want to be the best in the World. Kevin Martin finished with 18 Grand Slam wins and I want 19. Glenn Howard has 3 World Championships, I want 4. Every time I step on the ice I want to know that I've done everything that I can to be prepared for that moment.

Do others in your Family curl?
Yes, most of my family curls or has curled for a period of time.

What do you enjoy most about curling?
I thoroughly enjoy the people around the game and the friendships that I have made because of curling. I owe curling for introducing me to my wife. If I had to pick something about the game itself it would be the strategy, angles, and the different look each end can take on.

Other Olympic Sport you'd like to try?

What would you like others to know about curling?
I think they should know that curling is a great game whether you are 8, 18, 48, or 80. It's never too late to take up curling and I suggest you add it to your bucket list to at least try it.

Most memorable curling experience?
Winning the Ontario Men's Championship to become Team Ontario at the Brier

Who is your greatest competitor?
At the moment we have yet to beat Kevin Koe, so it would have to be them.

Place you'd like to build a curling club?
I have always had the dream of one day building a curling rink in my house.

Who are your favourite athlete/heros?
Terry Fox was incredible, a true Canadian hero

What other sports do you play?

What is the best advice you've ever received?
"If you do not learn from history, you are destined to repeat it."

Name one thing that's in your bucket list?
Win a Gold Medal at the Olympics

What sporting event would you most like to attend?
Winter Olympics
